A Slip of Time Turns Timeless
Today, mainly in the U.K., is Pancake Day. For Christians, today is Shrove Tuesday. For party animals today is Mardi Gras. For party animals who are anti-French, today is Fat Tuesday. Traditionally, on this day everyone is suppose to confess and repent of their sins. After which, the 40 days of fasting before Easter -Jesus’ resurrection- begins. Since fasting consisted of eliminating meat,...
The One. The Only. The First.
George Washington is a pretty amazing person. My parents are pretty amazing people as well. In their bathroom they have Glenn Beck’s, Being George Washington. Awhile back, I had a couple of unexpected sit-ins on the throne with Glenn Beck’s book. I only read the preface and the first couple of chapters; from the snippets read I, admittedly, was entertained. He picked good content to...
Valentine's & Its Ventures
What better way to evoke emotions, whether they be your own, your lovers, or a number of potentials, than by making “the mix tape.”
Valentine’s Day seems to bring up an emotion, regardless of what kind. Some people are in love and excited to show that love. Others are in love and dread the pushed expectation to show that love. Then there are those that aren’t so lucky. The individuals...

Storytelling & My Masterful Audience Skills
Pecha Kucha (pronounced “peh chak cha”) is Japanese meaning “chit chat.” Pecha Kucha has a simply said, but probably harder to do, rule: each speaker gets 20 slides and 20 seconds of each slide for their story. 20X20 = 400 seconds, end of story. Period. Pecha Kucha is like a cross between storytelling and TED talks (ted.com) -at least the Pecha Kucha Night of Philadelphia...
2012 -The Beginning of The End- Nature vs. Nurture
When a child won’t take “no” for an answer, stubbornness seems to come from “your mother’s side of the family.” When a child has a bad driving record, recklessness seems to come from “your father’s side of the family.” When that child asks about their knee problems, both parents seem to subside from the finger-pointing and almost harmonize when saying “it’s from both sides of the family.”
Here’s...

Our entire being is made to want to work less and be as efficient as possible. For every individual makes up a society, and if you are what you eat, then our society is its individuals. Individually or socially, it is our natural state to want to survive. When anything in our body is being attacked with abnormal cells, our unanimous body goes into full fight mode. Our body wants us to rest...
Vision of Division
Why the name-calling? Why the finger pointing? What is it with all these generalized terms and categories? You’re a liberal. You’re a conservative. You’re a Muslim, Christian, Jew, anti-Christ. If you’re not with us, you’re against us! You really believe there are only two sides to the (political) coin? Maybe a sliver of a third? Wow. How generous of you. No, really, you’re too kind. If you...
From Gods to God. From Plane to Planet.
Does anyone really know what they’re talking about when looking at large scale concerns? Scientists are the only people really trying it on for size and their job is to ridicule and scrutinize any and every other scientist with their findings. They want all their papers and they want to test the other’s research with the hopes of disproving it. The ultimate bullies, really. Or maybe they’re the...

Does Not One Drop of Water Equate to All Seas?
You have a degree. You are a working member of society. Your health could be better if you had the time to make your own meals and the self-esteem to not need a drink to try to score with the opposite sex. On average you’re doing alright for yourself. With the holiday season coming up you’re planning for more spending than average -and not just for others, but a little for yourself...

Sleeping With a Mosquito
In each of us lies a little poison. It is only learning the craft of using that poison for positive change. Taking a ‘bite’ into an entity a thousand times bigger than us, the individual (or mosquito, if you will), may be just the smidgen of self-gratification to keep our little chins up. All we need is to take a little blood for our survival and give a little sting for their...
The Layers of a Picture:
You don’t have to walk into the middle of a story to hear “But they were in the wrong, right?! I had every right to do ‘X’.” There is always some back-story to every story. Not only is there a back-story to the story, there’s a back-story to the back-story, agreed.
Exactly.
Three days ago I was hit by a car who “failed to yield while turning.”...

Bank Transfer Day - NOVEMBER 5th!!
Take your money out of big banks and put it into your community banks such as credit unions. You vote a couple days a year on a ballot, but everyday with your money. Can this make a difference? With enough people on board, it would at least turn a few top-heads. If you transferred mortgages as well that could make an even bigger hole to look through.
Luckily, I’ve only ever banked with a...
ab(c) to wall st. (x)yz
Weird news for weirder times. And now I’m on board. What does that say about me? Please, let me formally introduce myself, informally. To rephrase Martin Luther King Jr.’s words, I want to live in a nation where I won’t be judged on anything but by the content of my character. Therefore, age/race/sex/religion is not the way in which I like to introduce myself on any forms or...
